Many silent film classics of internationally known directors such as Fritz Lang, Friedrich Murnau or Charles Chaplin rested in the archives for decades - often in desolate condition. But then in 1988 the composer and pianist Aljoscha Zimmermann, born in Riga in 1944, and the film historian Enno Patalas met each other: the silent film awoke from Sleeping Beauty sleep. To this day, Aljoscha Zimmermann has brought it to over 300 edits and new compositions of film music.
