An Orthodox priest, Father Nikolay, the brother of a Yakuza boss, is drawn into in a mob war in Japan. He escapes to the small Russian village of Glubokoe, where he finds that war has found him again.

Dying, the grandfather bequeathed to his grandson Luke to faithfully and truly serve the hero Vamekh, who, according to popular belief, should come and free the country from the oppression of the bloodthirsty vizier. However, the vizier's mercenaries kidnap her from the monastery where Twalta was hiding. Luka, his friends, Bakur and Zaal, save the princess, but they themselves find themselves in an enemy trap. In the old abandoned fortress they will have to fight their last battle.
The day after his funeral, the corpse of Varlam Aravidze, the mayor of a small Georgian town, turns up in his son's garden. Although it is secretly reburied, the corpse keeps returning until the police capture the local woman who is responsible. This woman says that Varlam should never be laid to rest since his Stalin-like reign of terror led to the disappearance of her family and friends.
