An elderly veteran of WWII living in peaceful retirement with his son and the latter's family becomes increasingly lost in wartime memories and reminiscences, much to his son's consternation. One day, an item the old man reads in a magazine prompts him to go off unannounced on a war-related quest. The son goes searching for his father, and in doing so reaches a greater understanding of both the old man and the generation he represents.
Tao Yuling is an actor in Mainland China and graduated from East China Military and Political University. In 2005 Tao Yuling won the title of "One Hundred Outstanding Actors" awarded by the China Film Performance Society, and the "Outstanding Contribution Film Artist" awarded by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television of the Ministry of Personnel. In 2017, he won the Lifetime Achievement Award of the 16th China Film Performing Arts Society Golden Phoenix Award.
